At least 40,000 families in Borno State are set to benefit from the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s (ADF) food intervention programme, a move aimed at easing economic hardship in the region.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Director General of the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Ali Abdullahi Isa, described the donation of 40,000 bags of 10kg rice as a timely relief for struggling families, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to alleviate the suffering of our people,” he said during the flag-off ceremony in Maiduguri on Wednesday. “We are deeply thankful to Alhaji Aliko Dangote and the entire foundation for their kindness and philanthropy.”
The food distribution in Borno is part of ADF’s ongoing nationwide initiative, which seeks to distribute one million bags of rice, valued at N16 billion, across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
Mr. Usman Muhammad, representing the Foundation, reaffirmed ADF’s commitment to supporting government efforts in tackling poverty and food insecurity. “Our focus is on improving the living conditions of Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable,” he stated.
For many beneficiaries, the donation provides much-needed relief. Aisha Modu, a 50-year-old displaced person, said the rice will help her cope with economic difficulties. Similarly, 60-year-old Umaru Aliyu, a father of six, expressed gratitude, praying for continued blessings on the Dangote Foundation.
Governor Zulum urged residents to pray for peace and stability in the state and the country at large.
