A devastating rainstorm has left many residents of Ogele in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State homeless, destroying homes, public infrastructure, and essential services.

The storm, which struck on the night of Eid-el-Fitr, caused extensive damage to community facilities, including Ansarul Islam Primary School, Community Secondary School, the local health centre, and mosques.

Several concrete poles and high-tension wires supplying electricity to Ogele, Afon, and nearby communities were also brought down, plunging the area into darkness.

Speaking on the impact, Aare Ogele, Alhaji Abubakar Akanbi, whose residence was also affected, described the situation as overwhelming.

He called on the government to swiftly assist the victims, including the Mufti of the community, who also suffered losses.

The chairman of the Ogele Descendants Progressive Union (ODPU), Alhaji Issa Akanbi-Oniyo, lamented that the disaster had rendered many residents homeless.

“We have never witnessed such destruction in recent times. Families are stranded, and people are left with no shelter. We urgently need intervention from the government, philanthropists, and organizations,” he said.

Some victims of the storm shared their struggles, stating that they were still assessing the full extent of their losses. They appealed for urgent relief to help them rebuild their lives.
