The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Consumer Protection Agency Establishment Bill 2025, moving the legislation one step closer to becoming law. The bill is now awaiting the assent of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The bill was passed during Monday’s plenary after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola, and seconded by Hon. Rasheed Bamidele of Osogbo State Constituency. This came after the adoption of the committee report presented by Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi, representing Ifelodun Constituency. The report was adopted through a motion by the Chief Whip, Hon. Olawale Akerele, and seconded by Hon. Sikiru Bajepade.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, praised lawmakers for their active participation in shaping the bill, expressing confidence that the new agency would help protect the rights and interests of consumers across the state.
“This is a major step forward for consumer rights in Osun. Our people deserve protection from exploitation, and this bill is a reflection of our commitment to good governance,” Egbedun said.
The Speaker also disclosed that the bill would be forwarded to the governor for his assent. Meanwhile, he has summoned the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to appear before the Assembly for a briefing.
In a related development, the Assembly went into a Committee of the Whole to continue deliberations on the Osun State Property Protection Bill 2025, making necessary amendments and corrections to the document.
Additionally, the Osun State Communal Crime Management and Peace Building Bill 2025 passed its first reading during the session. The Speaker urged members to thoroughly study the proposed law in preparation for further discussions.
On a lighter note, during the session, Hon. Rabiu Adeshina of Iwo Constituency extended appreciation to Governor Adeleke for providing a fire-fighting truck to the area. He stated that the equipment had been instrumental in responding to recent fire outbreaks and praised the governor’s responsiveness to community needs.
The day also saw political science students from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, visiting the Assembly to observe the legislative process, offering them firsthand insight into governance at the state level.
