The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has addressed the political tensions in Rivers State during a live media chat, particularly the controversy surrounding suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike clarified that the Rivers State House of Assembly operates as an independent body and holds the constitutional authority to initiate impeachment proceedings if it deems necessary. He stated that any decision by the Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara would be within their rights, and he would not interfere in the process.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Wike noted that he had expected a more decisive action—specifically, the removal of Governor Fubara.
Shifting focus to his current role as FCT Minister, Wike reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Abuja into a world-class city. He highlighted plans to upgrade infrastructure, enhance sanitation, and bolster security across the capital.
However, Wike declined comment on the defection of 25 lawmakers from PDP to APC, in the State House of Assembly, which many believed to be major roots of unrest and Wike’s Script to ensure Fubara did not have a smooth running of governance in Rivers State.
Responding to recent rumors concerning his health, Wike dismissed claims that he had collapsed or was unwell. He assured Nigerians that he remains in good health and fully capable of executing his responsibilities.
