Dangote Packaging Eyes African Markets as Output Surges to 52 Million Bags Monthly

6th May, 2025

Dangote Packaging Limited (DPL) is set to enter the African export market, leveraging its recent production boost to target countries across West, Central, and Southern Africa.

Chairman of the company’s board, Mr Robert Ade-Odiachi, disclosed the plan following a strategic board meeting, stating that DPL had increased its monthly output from 36 million to 52 million polypropylene bags, positioning it for regional expansion.

“With this increase in capacity, we are more than ready to meet local demand and export our surplus to neighbouring markets,” Ade-Odiachi said. “An export team is already in place to drive this next phase.”

He added that DPL’s export strategy would rest on competitive pricing and high product standards. “Our operations are driven by world-class machinery, skilled workers, and efficient systems. Quality will not be compromised,” he assured.

Ade-Odiachi hinted at possible trade incentives to ease entry into new territories and emphasised the strategic importance of the expansion in supporting Dangote Group’s broader industrial ambitions.

“With raw materials now sourced internally from our refinery and petrochemical plants, we’ve attained self-sufficiency. This positions us strongly for long-term growth,” he said.

Also speaking at the meeting, Alhaji Mustapha Matawalle, Treasurer of Dangote Group and board member of DPL, highlighted the broader economic benefits of the expansion.

“This move is not just about increasing revenue—it’s about job creation and improving Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings through exports,” Matawalle noted.

He also praised the company’s commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, describing DPL’s health and environmental standards as robust and exemplary.

DPL’s expansion drive follows the recent commissioning of advanced production equipment in April. Managing Director Mr Sai Prakash described the machinery as a game-changer for efficiency and quality.

“With our fast-growing capabilities, entering the African export market is not just a goal—it’s the next logical step,” Prakash stated.

The move is expected to enhance Nigeria’s presence in regional manufacturing and strengthen Dangote Group’s industrial footprint beyond its current borders.
