Residents of Ode-Irele in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State were thrown into mourning on Monday after a 22-year-old woman, Joy Tale, was allegedly hacked to death by her landlord’s son during a heated argument.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Odunayo Olomolatan, was reportedly arrested shortly after the incident and is currently in custody at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ode-Irele.
Spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed the incident, said investigations are ongoing to uncover the details behind the tragic killing.
“Yes, I can confirm to you that the lady was allegedly hacked to death during an argument between her and her landlord’s son,” Ayanlade told newsmen. “The suspect has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the lady’s death.”
Reacting to the incident, Chairman of Irele Local Government, Olajide Akinfe, appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and avoid any form of jungle justice as the police continue their investigation.
“We understand the pain and shock this has caused the community, but I urge everyone to allow the law to take its course,” he said.
The community is still reeling from the loss as sympathizers continue to visit the residence of the deceased, demanding justice and calling for peace.
