The week-long activities lined up for the coronation of the Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup began on Friday 16th May, 2025 with a special jumat service held at the Ilesa central mosque, Ilesa.
The Special jumat prayer presided over by the grand chief Imam of ijesha Land, Alhaji Jamiu Idris, had in attendance Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, his family members, chiefs, friends, associates and other dignitaries including the head of Ogboni of Ijesha Alhaji Sakariyahu Fapohunda.
In his sermon, the chief Imam described Oba Haastrup’s ascension as one destined by God and not contested. He described the monarch as a qualified and competent leader who has all it takes to pilot the affairs of Ijesha land as he enjoined the indigenes to cooperate with the king so as to have a peaceful reigning.
While paying glowing tribute to the new Owa of Ijesha land, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAMPET Geophysical Consulting Nigeria Limited, Dr Timothy Peterson described Oba Haastrup as an epitome of development with deep passion for change. He praised the monarch for his sense of inclusivity and expressed optimism that his reign will be successful with more development that will be coming to Ijesha land.
Meanwhile, Rulers’ World Media observed that construction of roads leading to the Owa Obokun’s palace is already being done while renovation work to give the palace a new face lift is also ongoing in preparation for the coronation ceremony.
Some of the residents who spoke with our reporters In Ilesha expressed their excitement over this significant stride noting that the development signalled the peaceful reign that the people of the Ijesha kingdom will witness in the era of Oba Haastrup.
