Dangote Foundation Breaks 10-Year Jinx, Donates Life-Saving Ambulance to Mainland Hospital

28th April, 2025

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system by donating a brand-new ambulance to the Mainland Hospital in Yaba, Lagos — ending over a decade of operations without a functional emergency vehicle.

The hospital, a critical centre for infectious disease management in Lagos, had struggled for years with emergency referrals and patient evacuations due to the absence of a working ambulance. That long-standing challenge was finally addressed on Friday when ADF presented the much-needed vehicle.

Speaking during the handover, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mainland Hospital described the donation as a major turning point for the facility.

“Today we received an ambulance from Aliko Dangote Foundation to support our response activities in Lagos. Aliko Dangote Foundation has taken care of our biggest headache; in fact, it is a game changer for us,” he said.
He added, “We lacked an ambulance for about 10 years, but now we have one we can boast of thanks to Mr Aliko Dangote. We are truly grateful.”

The intervention by ADF reinforces its broader mission of filling critical healthcare gaps in Nigeria. Over the years, the foundation has led initiatives targeting malnutrition, polio eradication, and pandemic response.

The Director of Health and Nutrition for ADF, Dr. Francis Aminu, while speaking at the event, reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to uplifting Nigerian lives through strategic health support.

“We are happy to help. The foundation is there to assist, especially in areas of health. They say health is wealth, so this is us showing our commitment to ensuring those needs are met,” he stated.

Dr. Aminu further stressed, “What we do at ADF isn’t just charity, it’s a duty. We believe that every Nigerian life is valuable, and health is the foundation on which all other aspirations are built.”

He assured that the ambulance donation is not a one-off intervention but part of a continuous effort to build resilient health systems Nigerians can depend on even in challenging times.

Through efforts like this, the Aliko Dangote Foundation continues to position itself as a key player in driving sustainable health development across the country — one donation, one intervention, and one life at a time.
