The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of University Adekunle Ajasin University AKUNGBA, Ondo State, Chapter, Comrade Bolu Oshodi has called on the general public and concerned various stakeholders to prevail on the victimization of ASUU Members by the management of some universities in Nigeria.
Comrade Oshodi at a peaceful rally staged on the University campus, joined their colleagues in all public universities in Nigeria to condemn and speaks against the unlawful dismissal of ASUU members by the managements of Lagos State University (LASU) Ojo, Kogi State University (KSU) Ayingba, and Ebonyi State University, (EBSU) Abakaliki, describing the act as illegal and unjust.
Oshodi, while addressing the media at a peaceful rally staged on the AAU, Akungba campus . condemned in strong terms the ploy by the managements of the three Universities to silence the voices of the people.
“it was unacceptable that lecturers, who were dedicated to nation-building through their career, should be treated with disdain by their institutions. this is clear contravention of labour law and university principle of justice and fairness”
The dismissals of the lecturers at those three Universities were unjust and clear attempt to undermine academic freedom and silence the voices of those who are working tirelessly to uphold the high standards of education in our Country.
Comrade Oshodi appealed to all and sundry to prevail on the managements of LASU, KSU and EBSU to recall the illegally sacked comrades stated that allowing this to go on unchecked will affect the morale of other members of staff in the three Universities.
The ASUU-AAUA Chairperson, Comrade Oshodi also brought to the notice of the public that some ASUU members are also facing one victimization or the other in their Universities.
According to him such Universities include: Chukwuemaka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAUE), Edo State and Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Imo State.
He stressed the need to end all forms of victimizations of ASUU-members in all Universities and called for the immediate reinstatement of all sacked ASUU members in LASU, KSU and EBSU, warned that if the act remain unchecked, it is highly dangerous for the growth of academia and education in Nigeria,
