The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday launched the distribution of professional kits to 10,000 midwives and nurses across the South-West states, including Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos.
The event, held at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, Ondo State, is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a national effort aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates while enhancing healthcare delivery.
According to the First Lady, a total of 60,000 kits comprising scrubs and Crocs are being distributed nationwide across all six geopolitical zones. The South-West distribution marks the fifth phase of the initiative, following previous rollouts in the North Central, North East, North West, and South-South regions.
“We are here today to flag off the distribution of the professional kits which will be distributed among the states in each zone,” Senator Oluremi said. “By the grace of God, we will be concluding with the sixth zone in Enugu, South East, in June.”
In addition to the kit distribution, Senator Oluremi announced a grant of N50 million to support 1,000 women petty traders in Ondo State, with each beneficiary receiving N50,000 to boost their businesses. She also revealed plans to empower 200 women in textile production with necessary materials and resources to scale their ventures.
The initiative is part of broader efforts under the Renewed Hope Initiative to improve the welfare of women and children across the country.
