As Muslim faithful prepare to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara State has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan to ensure smooth and safe movement across the state during the festive period.
The Kwara Sector Command of the FRSC has deployed no fewer than 450 personnel, including regular officers, marshals, special marshals, and first responders for a special patrol operation. In addition, 16 patrol vehicles, two power bikes, four ambulances, four light private tow trucks, and a 70-tonne heavy-duty tow truck have been mobilised for this operation.
According to a statement from the Public Education Officer of the FRSC in Kwara, Basambo Olayinka Busari, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Mufutau A. Irekeola, has stationed personnel at strategic traffic points across Ilorin and other major towns in the state. The special patrol runs from June 5 to June 11, 2025.
Commander Irekeola urged road users to exercise caution and avoid traffic violations that commonly result in crashes. “Motorists are reminded to shun dangerous driving, excessive speeding, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, and the operation of rickety vehicles,” he said. “Also, lane indiscipline and route violation will not be tolerated during this period.”
In a bid to further reduce road crashes and ease vehicular movement, the command has intensified its public enlightenment campaigns. These include advocacy visits to markets, churches, mosques, early morning awareness drives, and rallies in major inter-state motor parks to sensitise drivers and passengers alike.
FRSC operatives will also be conducting traffic control along major routes to manage congestion and provide quick emergency response where necessary.
Wishing residents of the state a peaceful and joyful celebration, Commander Irekeola appealed: “Let us all celebrate responsibly. Drive safely, obey traffic rules, and arrive at your destinations alive. That’s the true meaning of a happy Sallah.”
