The lawmaker representing the Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency, Oyo, Hon. Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu has commiserated with the immediate members of family and the entire people of Iroko in Akinyele local government area over the death of Oniroko of Iroko, His Royal Highness Oba Sunmaila Olasunkanmi Abioye Opeola, who died in the early hours of yesterday.
In a condolence statement personally issued by the lawmaker and made available to journalists in Ibadan, he described the passage of the monarch as shocking, pathetic and devastating considering the fact that his reign brought about accelerated development to the Iroko kingdom.
Hon. Lafi stressed that the Oba Oniroko’s death is not just a loss to his bereaved family alone but to him personally because of the bond they shared and wise counsel that the monarch always gave him during his lifetime.
“I received with shock the news of the demise of my revered father, the Oniroko of Iroko land, His Royal Highness, Oba Sunmaila Olasunkanmi Abioye Opeola, Kunrunlolu 1 who died in the early hours of yesterday.”
“Kabiyesi was my father, my counselor, a leading light and a peace maker. He was such a wonderful monarch whose reign had left an indelible mark in the lives of the entire citizens of Iroko town and committed his life to the preservation of culture and tradition of Yorubaland.
Therefore, on behalf of the good people of Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency where I am representing at the National Assembly, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved Oba Sunmaila Olasunkanmi family, the Chairman Akinyele local government, Akinyele local government traditional council, Oyo State council of traditional Rulers, and the entire people of Oyo State area over the loss of our beloved monarch.
Though Kaabiyesi was no more, we must take solace in the fact that he spent his lifetime for the overall development of Iroko town throughout the 14 years he spent on the throne.
“May the departed soul of our father rest in perfect peace and may the Almighty Allah grant his family and the good people of Irokoland the fortitude to bear the loss of his passage”. Hon. Lafi who is the Chairman House Committee on Nigeria/Mexico Parliamentary Friendship prayed to God.
