The chairman of independent national electoral commission,Professor Mahmood Yakubu hails Anambra State governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for improving security across the state.He made this known during the opening remarks at second quarterly consultative meeting with political parties today at INEC Conference Room,Abuja.
He said the atmosphere in Anambra state is peaceful and developed to conduct governorship election on November 8,2025.He also said “We praised Governor Soludo for this achievement and urged him to sustain the current security tempo and safeguard the security architecture in place to ensure a smooth,free,fair,and credible electoral process”
Yakubu recalled security challenges IN EC faced while preparing for 2021 governorship election in Anambra.He lamented on the terrified incidents where INEC headquarters in Awka was attacked, leading to part of the office burnt and several Bimodal Voters Accreditation System machines destroyed.He said “in addition to the Awka office,several INEC local government area office were set ablaze,electoral materials worth billion of Naira were destroyed and members of staff were attacked and injured during that turbulent period”
He said “Against this backdrop as a commission saddled with the responsibility of conducting elections,we emphasised the importance of situation in the ahead of the November 8,2025 governorship poll to prevent a recurrence of the 2021 scenario”.He reaffirmed the commitment of INEC working closely with all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and successful election in Anambra State.
