The Kwara State House of Assembly has paid tribute to the late Alhaji Musa Maiyaki, a respected community and political leader, while also progressing an amendment to the Kwara State Education Trust Fund Law to enhance accountability and efficiency.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Hon. Arinola Fatima Lawal (Ilorin East) formally informed the House of Alhaji Maiyaki’s passing. She described him as a selfless leader who dedicated his life to public service, from his tenure as Chairman of the old Ilorin Local Government to his role as Deputy Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC).
“His contributions to the Otoge political movement and his impact as a businessman, particularly through Yakima Motors, made him a household name in Kwara State,” Hon. Arinola stated. She prayed for Allah’s mercy on his soul and comfort for his family.
In legislative business, the Assembly advanced the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aims to improve transparency in managing the Trust Fund. House Leader Hon. Magaji Oba Abdulkadir (Ilorin Central) led the debate, emphasizing that the amendment would require the Fund to submit its annual budget for the Governor’s approval.
“The proposed changes will enhance oversight, streamline board composition, and define quorum requirements for effective decision-making,” Hon. Magaji explained.
Lawmakers, including Hon. Rukayat Motunrayo Shittu (Owode/Onire) and Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon (Edu), supported the bill, which passed its second reading and was referred to the House Committee on Education and Human Capital Development for further review.
The session concluded with a motion for adjournment, moved by Hon. Magaji Oba Abdulkadir and seconded by Hon. Saidu Baba Ahmed (Banni/Adena).
