Tragedy struck in Kwara State as gunmen assassinated Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State chapter.
According to source, he was shot dead at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi, on the night of March 8, 2025.
Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that operatives recovered five expended 7.62mm shells at the scene. His remains have since been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, condemned the assassination and assured that a full-scale investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is underway. “We will not relent until those behind this gruesome act are apprehended and brought to justice,” he stated, urging the public to remain calm and provide useful information to aid the investigation.
In a statement, the State Secretary of MACBAN, Hon. AbdulAzeez Muhammed, expressed deep sorrow over the killing,
praying for Allah’s mercy upon the deceased.
“He is survived by two wives and six children.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, admit him into Aljannah Firdausi, and grant his family the strength to bear this loss,” he said
The killing of Alhaji Abubakar, a key figure in the state’s livestock sector, has sent shockwaves through the herders’ community, with calls for swift justice and enhanced security measures in the region.
