As part of the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode A. Egbetokun, the Kwara State Police Command has rolled out plans for the maiden edition of National Police Day, scheduled for April 7, 2025.

The event is designed to recognize the dedication and sacrifices of police officers while fostering stronger community relations and public trust.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, highlighted that the celebration will feature a series of community-focused programs aimed at enhancing security cooperation and social development across the state.

“To kick off the activities, officers will embark on a state-wide sanitation exercise on April 2, cleaning key public areas such as Post Office, Geri-Alimi Roundabout, Yoruba Market, and Sawmill in Surulere.”

This initiative, according to the police, is intended to promote hygiene and encourage residents to maintain a cleaner environment.

“On April 3, a town hall meeting with community leaders, traditional rulers, security agencies, and government representatives will be held under the theme: “Community and the Police: Strengthening Cooperation for Enhanced Security and Effective Service Delivery.” The discussion aims to address security concerns, crime prevention strategies, and ways to improve police-community collaboration.

Further underscoring the police force’s commitment to public welfare, a free medical outreach will be organized on April 4 to provide healthcare services to residents, reinforcing the humanitarian role of the police beyond security enforcement.

“Additionally, on April 5, police officers will engage students and youths in a sensitization campaign against cultism, violent crimes, gangsterism, and gender-based violence. The initiative seeks to discourage criminal tendencies among young people and guide them towards responsible citizenship.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while deepening its relationship with the people.

“This celebration is not just about the police; it is about strengthening our bond with the communities we serve. We want the public to see the police not only as law enforcers but also as partners in development and social progress,” he said.

The police command urged members of the public to participate in the events, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility.

The initiative is expected to become an annual tradition in Kwara State, further solidifying the role of the police in maintaining peace and stability.
