The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting academic institutions with a visit by Brigadier General E. B. Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The visit, seen as a strategic move to deepen collaboration between the military and the institution, highlights growing efforts to ensure a safer academic environment for students and staff.
Welcoming the Army chief, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, commended the soldiers stationed at the institution for their discipline and commitment to maintaining peace.
“We sincerely appreciate the Nigerian Army for their presence and continuous support. Their role in securing our environment cannot be overstated,” the Rector said.
“This partnership is vital to our mission of providing quality education in a safe and stable atmosphere.”
He further expressed the institution’s readiness to build on the existing relationship, saying stronger collaboration would help the Polytechnic achieve its academic goals without the threat of insecurity.
Brigadier General Barkins, in his address, emphasized the significance of security in any academic setting.
“Our visit is to show that we value our partnership with Kwara Polytechnic. Education and security must go hand in hand, and when institutions and security agencies work together, the result is a stable and peaceful learning environment,” he stated.
The visit underscores the importance of military-civil relations in maintaining order within educational communities, particularly in a time where security remains a national concern.
