The Kwara State Government has trained 25 medical personnel in Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEMONC) to improve maternal and child safety during childbirth.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina El-Imam, made this known at the flag-off ceremony of a 14-day residential Training of Trainers on CEMONC in Ilorin. She emphasized that the initiative is geared towards reducing maternal mortality and ensuring safer deliveries.
“This training will enhance your clinical skills and competence while also equipping you with leadership qualities. It is time to groom leaders who can match their technical expertise with present realities and pass on knowledge to others,” she said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to quality healthcare, El-Imam disclosed that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) had approved five healthcare facilities in Kwara to provide free Caesarian sections and combat maternal mortality.
“This intervention aligns with our administration’s goal of making healthcare accessible to all,” she added, urging residents to appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing maternal health.
A UNICEF representative, Dr. Hadiza Aliyu, commended the state government for strengthening healthcare services. She attributed the progress to the governor’s leadership, which has fostered collaboration with development partners.
