Kwara United delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, dismantling Lobi Stars of Makurdi 4-0 in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 35 encounter at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin.
The Harmony Boys wasted no time in stamping their authority, as Wasiu Alalade smashed home the opener just six seconds into the game — equaling a remarkable feat he first achieved two seasons ago against Remo Stars. Barely eleven minutes later, Junior Aimufua made it two, connecting beautifully with a cross from Ibrahim Yahaya.

Although Lobi Stars tried to find their rhythm and created a few nervy moments, Kwara United’s goalkeeper Suraju Ayeleso was in top form, pulling off crucial saves to preserve the lead. Kwara United, however, suffered a minor setback when creative midfielder Ibrahim Yahaya limped off injured and was replaced by Alao Mohammed.
In the second half, Junior Aimufua missed a couple of chances but eventually found his composure to grab his second goal in the 81st minute. Substitute Ismail Gatta put the icing on the cake in added time, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations.

Coach Tunde Sanni’s tactical switches — introducing Issa Gatta, Wasiu Alalade, and Shola AbdulRaheem — kept the pressure on Lobi Stars and opened up the game even more in Kwara United’s favour.
Speaking after the match, Coach Sanni expressed relief at the convincing victory, acknowledging that the team had been under intense pressure following recent results.

“This was a very important win for us. The players showed good character today. Now, our focus shifts to the President Federation Cup quarterfinal. It’s time to show Akwa United that we are ready to avenge our NPFL loss,” he said confidently.
Junior Aimufua’s dazzling display earned him the Cyteck Man of the Match award, presented by Engr. Ahmed Olaide.
Despite the win, Kwara United remain 12th on the NPFL table after 35 games and will travel to Aba for a tough encounter against Enyimba International next.
