Ashiribo Olalekan, the cyclist who clinched Team Kwara’s first gold medal at the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, has set his sights on earning a spot in the national camp following his impressive feat.

Olalekan, who emerged victorious in cycling, told reporters shortly after his triumph that his performance was inspired by a deep desire to bring honour to Kwara State and to attract the attention of national selectors.

“My target is to get a national camp call-up,” he said confidently. “That’s the dream I’ve been chasing, and I believe this gold medal has brought me a step closer.”

He attributed his success to the passion and commitment of his coach, noting that the team’s preparation and mental drive have been instrumental.

“The zeal and unwavering dedication of our coach has been a major source of motivation behind my eagerness to deliver gold for Kwara,” Olalekan added.

Speaking on the general atmosphere within Team Kwara, the cyclist expressed optimism about the state’s chances of adding more medals in the coming days.

“Our athletes are very focused. We’re going into every event with serious determination. This gold is just the beginning,” he affirmed.

Olalekan’s gold win marks an early breakthrough for Kwara State at the festival, and expectations are now high for more victories as the games unfold.
