KWARA – Fear and frustration have gripped the people of Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a popular agro-chemical dealer, popularly known as Alhaji Chemical.
The businessman was reportedly kidnapped from his residence in the Taiwo area of the town around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses say the armed attackers, suspected to be Fulani bandits, stormed the community on motorcycles and overwhelmed local vigilantes with heavy gunfire before whisking their target away.
Community sources described the attack as deliberate and well-coordinated, pointing to the victim’s prominence and the ease with which the assailants executed the operation.
In the aftermath of the incident, tension flared on Monday as outraged residents took to the streets in protest. They blocked major roads and demanded urgent action from the government to stem the rising tide of insecurity.
“This is no longer just a threat — it’s a full-blown crisis,” said a protesting resident. “Not long ago, a young man running a POS shop was also kidnapped. It has become a pattern, and we are living in fear every day.”
Another protester added, “We can’t sleep with our eyes closed anymore. Every week someone is taken. We are tired of empty promises.”
The protesters called on security agencies to intensify patrols and surveillance in the area, urging authorities to track down the abductors and ensure the safe release of their victims.
As the community reels from the latest attack, many residents are expressing deep concern over what they see as a growing breakdown of law and order in Lafiagi and its surrounding areas.
