NAPTIP Rescues 19 Girls Allegedly Impregnated by One Man in Abuja, Seeks Stronger Collaboration

17th May, 2025

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 19 girls in Abuja who were allegedly impregnated by a single individual, raising concerns over rising cases of abuse and trafficking in the country.

Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Bello, made the shocking disclosure during a meeting with the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday.

While details about the rescue operation remain sketchy, Bello commended NiDCOM for its continued partnership, especially in the recent evacuation of 231 young Nigerians who were trafficked to Ghana under the guise of job opportunities.

“Human trafficking remains a serious challenge and can only be tackled through stronger collaboration between government agencies and key stakeholders,” she said.

She also called for intensified awareness campaigns, especially at the grassroots, to educate the public about the tricks used by traffickers and the dangers of falling into their traps.

Dabiri-Erewa assured that NiDCOM would continue to support NAPTIP’s efforts in combating trafficking and protecting vulnerable Nigerians both at home and abroad.
