Pensioners in Oyo State have been urged not to relent in their prayers and support for the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde in order to continue to deliver on his electoral promises.
The call was made by the executive chairmen of Afijio local government, Hon. Oluwafemi Emmanuel Aikomo and Iseyin local government, Hon. Razaq Fadiran and a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Afijio state constituency, Hon. Oladeji Oparinde in their separate remarks at the verification exercise for the payment of gratuity and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff from Oyo/Ogbomoso zone and Oke-Ogun zone held at the Afijio and Iseyin local government Secretariat respectively.
In their remarks, they pointed out that increasing the least paid monthly pension from less than #2,000 to #25,000 that cuts across all the pensioners by Governor Seyi Makinde beat everybody’s imagination considering the huge amount involved alongside the payment of #80,000 minimum wage to the entire workforce in the state.
Governor Makinde has done what many thought was impossible for the pensioners in the state. When he came on board in 2019, he started with the donation of his monthly salary to the pensioners. After that, he started the payment of about #36 billion naira he inherited from the past administrations.
Not only that, he has consistently been paying their monthly pension alongside the workers salaries on or before the 25th of every month, paid a 15,000 wage award to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removed by the federal government among other welfare packages he has delivered to the pensioners.
What Governor Makinde needs from the people in the state is their prayers for God’s guidance and protection so that he can continue to deliver good governance and make the state better than he met it.
While congratulating the beneficiaries of the payment of gratuities exercise, they advised them not to fall victim to fraudulent people who might want to dupe them after receiving their gratuities they worked for.
While delivering his speech, the chairman of Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ige charged the pensioners to be prepared to support whoever Governor Makinde presents as his successor in 2027 in order to continue to enjoy timely payment of their pension and gratuities.
Others in attendance include Permanent Secretary LGSPB Alhaji Lukman Akinola Muraina, Permanent Secretary Oke Ogun zone 2, Dr Adedapo Atoyebi and Heads of Local Government Administration, Secretary and Assistant Secretary of Afijio local government and some Supervisory councillors in the two local governments, PDP Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Sakiru Ojo and some state executive members of the NUP.
