The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of attempting to kidnap a child in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the suspect was apprehended on Friday, May 16, 2025, around 7:00 p.m. by a joint patrol team comprising police operatives and community vigilante members.
The suspect, who claimed to be from Osun State, was reportedly caught during a routine patrol and rescued from an angry mob that accused him of attempting to abduct a child. The mob was on the verge of carrying out jungle justice when security operatives intervened.
The statement noted that the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify any accomplices. However, the complainant(s) involved have yet to report to the police headquarters to assist with the investigation.
The command strongly condemned the attempted mob action and reiterated its warning against jungle justice, describing it as unlawful and capable of leading to a miscarriage of justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, urged members of the public to always report suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than take the law into their own hands. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring justice is served in accordance with the law.
