In a bid to put an end to the political crisis in Rivers state, President Bola Tinubu on Thursday met and had a closed door meeting with suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the state assembly

The meeting appeared to have signalled a breakthrough in reconciliation efforts, as the President, Governor, and Minister were captured smiling together.

While speaking with the reporters, FCT minister, Nyesom Wike confirmed the positivity of the meeting, stated that both party has put their difference aside and now embracing peace. He commended President Tinubu for playing pivotal role in restoring peace and unity, thereby noted that the time of disagreement has passed and this is the time for settlement

“You have disagreement and you also have a time to settle your disagreement and that has been finally concluded today and we have come to talk to Mr President that this is what we have agreed. So, for me everything is over and I enjoin everybody who believe to work with us to also work together with everybody.” He said.

President Fubara also expressed his satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting, he highlighted the significance of peace as major tool of achieving a progressive environment. He equally lauded President Tinubu for displaying leadership prowess in ensuring the restoration of peace and unity to Rivers state

“This day have come to be, what we need for the progress of Rivers state is peace, by the special grave of God this night, with the help of the President and agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned to Rivers state.”

It could be recalled that President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers state on March 18 over political unrest in the state, during that declaration, Tinubu suspended the governor, his deputy Mrs Ngozi Odu, and the state House of Assembly, citing their inability to work together and growing security concerns as reasons for his action
