STRIKE HITS OKEOGUN POLY, FOUR OTHERS IN OYO

Academic activities have been disrupted in five tertiary institutions in Oyo State as workers embarked on an indefinite strike ,leaving thousands of students in Oyo State have been left stranded .

The Joint Action Committee (JAC), comprising 15 staff unions, declared the strike to press home their demands for better working conditions and compensation.

The affected institutions are The Polytechnic, Ibadan; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora; and Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate.

According to sources, the workers are demanding the implementation of new minimum wages and an increase in subvention released to the institutions.

Students who had gathered for their first semester examinations were turned back, leaving them uncertain about their academic future.

The strike, which began just days after the commencement of first semester examinations, has left students stranded and uncertain about their academic future.

Efforts to reach the state government for comments on the strike were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

This Newspaper can authoritatively report that,the gates of The Polytechnic, Ibadan; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora; and Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate have been locked, preventing students and staff from gaining access to the campuses.

The strike is expected to continue until the workers’ demands are met.
