Mourning gripped the town of Daura on Tuesday as Fatima Buhari, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, arrived in tears at her father’s home ahead of his burial.
Fatima, overwhelmed by emotion, was seen weeping as she reunited with family members and well-wishers gathered at the Daura residence. Close relatives and associates moved swiftly to console her as preparations for the burial continued in earnest.
A family member who spoke briefly said, “This is a difficult time for all of us. Fatima has always been very close to her father. His passing has hit her deeply.”
Other members of the Buhari family were also present, as sympathisers streamed into the compound to offer condolences and prayers for the late elder statesman.
The late President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, in a London clinic after a prolonged illness, will be laid to rest later today following funeral prayers at the Emir’s palace.
Residents of Daura, the hometown of the former leader, have described his death as a monumental loss. One local elder, Alhaji Usman Lawal, said, “We have lost a son, a leader, and a pillar of our community. May Allah grant him eternal rest.”
Security was tight around the residence and palace area as dignitaries and mourners arrived for the funeral.
