What could have been a devastating tragedy in Ganmo, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State was averted Saturday morning as operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service battled a fire outbreak at God First Plaza, located opposite TCN along Ogbondoroko Road.
The inferno, which was reported around 6:20 am on June 21, engulfed part of a one-storey building consisting of 10 two-bedroom flats and 10 shops. Eyewitnesses said thick smoke and flames quickly overtook one of the flats, prompting panic and confusion among occupants.

Despite the early morning chaos, the fire crew arrived swiftly and took charge of the situation. Their coordinated and courageous efforts ensured that the fire did not spread beyond the single affected apartment.
“There was a sudden blast from a shattering glass window, and people ran in fear,” a resident who fled the building recounted. “But the firemen remained calm and focused. They saved the entire building.”
The quick intervention saved 19 flats and shops from destruction. No casualties or injuries were recorded.
According to initial investigations, the fire started due to a power surge. The flat involved was said to have contained several flammable items, which intensified the blaze before help arrived.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sympathy to the affected residents and cautioned the public on the importance of adhering to fire safety measures.
“Everyone must be mindful of their electrical appliances and avoid storing flammable items carelessly,” he advised. “We are grateful no lives were lost, and I commend our team for their brave and timely response.”
The Kwara State Fire Service continues to urge residents to report emergencies early and maintain basic fire safety habits to prevent future incidents.
