President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been praised for confirming the appointment of Hon. Gidado Abdullateef Alakawa as Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA), which oversees Kwara and Kogi states.

The Coordinator of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) in Kwara State, Mallam Mohammed Salihu, described Alakawa’s appointment as a well-deserved recognition of his expertise and commitment to agricultural development.

Salihu highlighted Alakawa’s extensive experience, having served as Special Adviser on Strategy and Political Affairs and later as Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State. According to him, Alakawa’s track record makes him a perfect fit to lead the LNRBDA in boosting irrigation farming and water resource management in the region.

“We are confident that his leadership will align with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that LNRBDA plays a crucial role in enhancing food production and empowering rural farmers,” Salihu stated.

He further commended President Tinubu for prioritizing experts in key positions, emphasizing that this appointment reflects the government’s commitment to people-centered governance. He also acknowledged Governor AbdulRazaq’s role in securing strategic appointments for Kwara indigenes, noting that such moves strengthen national development.

Salihu expressed optimism that under Alakawa’s leadership, LNRBDA would contribute significantly to the administration’s broader restructuring of river basin authorities, aimed at improving efficiency and food security through modern irrigation techniques.
